Colzie was named in January 2024 as FAMU’s 19th head coach, promoted from associated head coach and defensive backs coach after two seasons.

He has Georgia ties, coaching at Valdosta State in 2007 and West Georgia from 2008-11, starting his full-time coaching career with the Blazers.

The 49-year-old went on to work at Southern Arkansas, Simon Fraser, Coffeyville Junior College, University of British Columbia, and St. Mary’s (Canada).

He went 18-20 at St. Mary’s in Canada.

The Miami native played football at Florida State from 1993-96 and was a regular on the 1993 national championship team, and spent a year on the Seminoles’ baseball team.

Colzie’s father is in the Florida High School Association Hall of Fame, and his World War II veteran grandfather was a Negro League pitcher who has a street named after him in Miami. His uncle played in the NFL for Oakland, Miami, and Tampa Bay.

The 41-2 Rattlers have 14 Georgians on the roster, including senior offensive lineman Ashton Grable of Wilkinson County, and Central grad Jalik Thomas, a grad student who transferred from Appalachian State.

Macon Touchdown Club taps Windsor, Rutland, Jones County players

Three seniors are the latest Macon Touchdown Club players of the week.

Back: Senior quarterback Dawson Sims of Windsor completed 17 of 28 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns, adding 47 yards on nine carries in the 50-35 loss to Trinity Christian.

Lineman: Senior defensive end Jonah Johnson of Rutland accounted for 12 tackles, with four for loss and a sack, in the 23-12 loss against Hawkinsville.

Special teams: Senior defensive back Andre Hall of Jones County had a blocked punt to go with several tackles in the Greyhounds’ 42-3 win over Union Grove.

Henley finishes in top 20 at Procore

Russell Henley had a better round on Sunday than Saturday, but lost ground on the leaderboard.

He dropped 10 spots into a tie for 19th to end the Procore Championship in Napa, Cal. After an even 72.

Henley finished with a 9-under 279, 10 shots back of Ryder Cup teammate Scottie Scheffler.

The Stratford grad was even after nine holes, with two birdies and two bogeys, all within a five-hole span.

Henley was first in driving accuracy and greens in regulation for the weekend, but an uncharacteristic tie for 44th in putts per greens in regulation and 70th in scrambling.

He’s now off until the Ryder Cup in New York starting on Sept. 25.
