Henley gets another shot after poor debut
There was no softening, no debate.
Russell Henley had an extremely forgettable – for him – opening day at the Ryder Cup.
The world’s No. 3 player was teamed with the world’s No. 1 player, and neither came close to playing like it, Henley and Scottie Scheffler joining their teammates on a poor day for America.
Henley and Scheffler lost 5 and 3 to Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick as America went 1-3 in the first session, foursome action (alternating shots).
As expected, Ryder rookie Henley – not sharp in any phase of his game, although he did drill a long putt late – sat out the afternoon’s four-ball. Scheffler didn’t, but failed to improve on his morning performance in a 3&2 loss to Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka.
But Henley gets a chance at redemption Saturday morning. He and Scheffler are paired up again at 7:58 a.m. against Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland.
