Deondrez Robertson ran 14 times for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Royals rolled to the GHSA Region 2-A/Division II win at Thompson Stadium. It was 6-6 after eight minutes, and then Robertson scored on runs of 35 and 24 yards in the second quarter while Joshua Stanley added a 4-yard run late in the second quarter for a 26-6 halftime lead. Robertson went in from 49 yards early in the third, Southwest breaking its drought on a TD pass from Jamarian Leghorn to Rinaldo Callaway. Brody Fleming connected with Octavius Tate for a 51-yard score in the third, Tate taking advantage of sloppy tackling to break free.
The Royals (3-1) racked up 268 yards on 40 carries, holding Southwest (1-3) to eight first downs 186 yards total offense. Isaiah Simeton added 61 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown.
“We dominated the game in all aspects,” Bleckley County head coach Von Lassiter said. “We had a few mistakes early on with some special teams things, but our defense dominated the game.
“We want to run the football, and tonight, we were able to establish that and do that, really, really well at times. We’ve had to throw it for 300 yards the last two weeks. We want to run the football, and tonight, we were able to establish that.”
