Knight, Raider, and Husky tapped by Macon TD Club
Back: Senior quarterback Heath Woodard of Windsor completed 11 of 17 passes for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns, also going off for 177 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in Windsor’s 55-7 rout of Trinity Christian.
Lineman: Sophomore linebacker Cedric Jackson of Northeast had 15 tackles, 2 for loss, in the Raiders’ 59-19 win over Rutland.
Special teams: Howard do-it-all senior Ta’Sahawn Poole ran the game-winning kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, adding 5 catches for 51 yards and 6 tackles in the 20-13 win over Spalding.
Baylor’s Aranda makes debut at Macon Touchdown Club
Veteran Baylor head coach Dave Aranda is Monday night’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The program begins at 6:30 p.m., and includes dinner, awards, and the talk. Cost is $35 for non-members. Membership for the year is $250. Podcaster Jake Crain is next week’s speaker.
Aranda, who turned 50 on Sept. 29, in his seventh season at Baylor, and is 40-38 after the Bears hammered Arizona State 55-19 on Saturday in one of their best games in years.
The California native retired from football after high school, courtesy of injuries that kept him from joining the Navy. While helping out at his alma mater, he gave the game a try at Cal Lutheran, but the physical impediments were too much, and he started his coaching career as a volunteer assistant.
Aranda went from there to Texas Tech, Houston, back to Cal Lutheran, then to Delta State, Hawaii, Utah State, Wisconsin, and LSU. He has coached mostly linebackers and defensive lineman, and has been a defensive coordinator at five schools.
The married father of three was part of LSU’s legendary national championship team in 2019.
