The state’s high school wrestling community is not in Macon, for the first time in awhile, but the action remains serious.
Three classifications are in the books at the new Clayton County Convocation Center. The tournament moved – ostensibly only for a year, but that’s not definite - because of a scheduling issue at the Marriott City Center adjacent to the Macon Coliseum.
Through the first two days, Central Georgia has a champion and two runners-up.
Dublin’s Domimarkeyo Walden took the Class A 285 championship, going 4-0 with wins of 3-0, 15-5, 15-8, and then 6-2 in the championship against Jordan Handsom of ECI.
Teammate Quinton Lovett took second at 120, falling 3-0 to Noah Brown of Gordon Lee.
Upson-Lee’s Cason Waddell took second in Class AAA at 144. He lost 23-7 to Jefferson’s Tanner Hunt in the final.
The action picks up on Friday for 4A, AA, and girls, and concludes Saturday, with the finals starting around 3:30 p.m.
A change in websites has rendered coverage of the past several years substantially more difficult, and thus not possible. We’ll have Central Georgia finalists and team results, starting with what’s been completed.
Here is the new website.
