Rarity: Henley misses the cut

For awhile, Russell Henley was right there with the world’s top golfer.

Closer to the bottom – much closer – than the top.

But Scottie Scheffler was able to barely make the cut at the Genesis Invitational while Henley missed out.

Both shot a 68 on Friday, but Henley’s 76 on Friday was too much to overcome, and he had a 144, two past the cutline of even.

Henley’s day was sabotaged on No. 12.

His tee shot went into the rough, putting him in a hole right away. His 27-foot par putt missed, and his 8-1/2 foot bogey putt was off, leaving him a 17-inch sixth shot.

A bogey two holes followed, but he ended on a roll with four straight birdies on the final holes. The double-bogey erased the to birdies Henley had on the front nine.

Henley had some impressive company in the early departures: Sam Burns, Harry Hall, Chris Gotterup, Justin Rose, Tom Hoge, and Jason Day, among others.

His streak of made cuts ended at 11, dating back to the PGA Championship last May.
