Henley sheds Scheffler, moves into top 10
Russell Henley was paired with Scottie Scheffler for the first two rounds of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but no more.
Henley pulled away and into the top 10 with a 3-under second round while Scheffler creeped up three spots into the top 15.
The afternoon put Henley eight shots bback of leader Daniel Berger, but only three behind second-place Akshay Bhatia.
Henley got off to a good start with a par save on No. 1, and added a 22-footer for birdie on No. 4. He sandwiched a pair of bogeys around another birdie on No. 8, missing a bogey on 10 by a half-foot.
He picked up steam with four irdies on five holes before a bogey on 17, a 25-footer getting to within four feet.
Henley found a few bunkers and responded with some nice bunker shots, ending the day second in shots gained putting and in feet of putts made (134-6) and tied for third in putts per greens in regulation, tied for fifth in shots gained.
The Maconite tees off at 1:20 p.m. Saturday with Xander Schauffele.
