The drama in the morning start came from Athens Christian and the weather. FPD survived both. The visitors led 1-0 after 2, only for the Vikings to put up 4 in the sixth to take control. Wyatt Waters had a run-scoring sac fly just before Tinsley Lewis’s 2-run homer, the first run coming in on Brady McHugh’s groundout. Harrison Strange turned in his second sterling playoff outing with a complete game, striking out 3 with a walk and 3 hits on 94 pitches. The Vikings went small-ball, with 7 singles, McHugh and Lewis driving in 2 runs each..
Stratford 11, Brookstone 4; Stratford 7, Brookstone 3
The Eagles led 8-4 when the first game was stopped for weather Friday in the top of the fifth. Stratford dealt a knockout punch to the defending champs with 3 in the sixth, on an error, sacrifice, two walks, two hit batters, and a groundout. Relief pitcher Bobby Wooten retired Brookstone in order in the final two innings, to go with his 2-hit game, joining Jett Johnston. Brooks Stella and Jaxen Justice each drove in 3 runs for the Eagles. In the clincher, Stratford took the lead for good with 2 in the fifth and sealed it with 4 in the sixth – 3 coming on Stella’s full-count, 2-out bomb to right. He drove in 4 runs on 2 hits, with 2-hit games coming from Johnston and Tucker Johnston. Casey Von Waldener whiffed 5 with 3 walks and 4 hits in the complete-game win.
