Alumni Update

Tattnall alum big in Troy’s surprising march to Super Regional

Benjamin Stubbs made the most of his first relief appearance of the season.

The Tattnall grade came on for Troy in the middle of the Trojans’ winner-take-all game with Florida in the Gainesville Regional on Monday.

He took care of business with a scoreless fifth inning in a 2-1 game, the Trojans putting up five an inning later to put the Gators away 10-2 and advance to hosting a Super Regional.

Stubbs is in his first season at Troy after transferring from Division II Flager, and he’s 5-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 17 games and 85.1 innings, which top the Trojans’ staff.

Stubbs had three quality years at Flagler in the Peach Belt before transferring, going 12-3 in 36 games, with a 3.47 ERA. Opponents hit .229 against him. He whiffed 153 batters in 129.2 innings, with 81 walks.

The 5-11, 180-pounder enters the Super Regional with a 5-3 record and 5.06 ERA, and 78 strikeouts and 37 walks – along with 98 hits 9n 85.1 innings.

Stubbs was the winning pitcher back in Febuary when the Trojans beat Mercer 19-3, going 3.1 innings and fanning six with four walks. Six weeks later, he sat down 12 Georgia Southern batters in seven innings in a loss.

He did take the loss against Miami in the regional, going 5.1 innings and giving up three earned runs, with six strikeouts and two walks in a 10-5 defeat.

Stubb was lot leaner when he was a pesky hitter and pitcher at Tattnall, graduating in 2022. He was the GHSA A Private pitcher of the year after going 11-1 and tying the school season mark with 125 strikeouts.

He helped Tattnall to a 47-15 record his final two seasons
