FVSU picked eighth in SIAC, Southwest grad Searcy All-SIAC
The hill is likely to be a little steeper for Fort Valley State and second-year head coach Marlon Watson.
Southwest grad Travion Searcy earned first-team honors at defensive back. He’s a senior at Central State in Dayton, Ohio.
FVSU put five players on the all-conference teams, led by punter Elan Hall and punt returner Donte Curry Jr. on the first team.
Sophomore offensive lineman Censere Wright, senior wideout J.T. Pendleton, and senior running back Michael Cabellero made the second team.
Edward Waters is the preseason pick to win the title, followed by Benedict, Tuskegee, Albany State, Kentucky State, Allen, and Miles all in front of the Wildcats.
Albany State went 12-2 overall and 8-0 in league play last year. FVSU went 4-6 and 4-4
“These guys, they know that going into the season, there is no more milk,” Watson said at Wednesday’s media day at the Harriet Tubman Museum. “We talked a lot about that this spring, and that’s coming from 1 Corinthians 13:11, also Dueteromony 5, where we were feeding a lot of milk to these guys last year.
“Now, we’re looking for solid food this year.”

Last year’s team had 13 Central Georgians. This year’s roster has yet to be posted.
FVSU opens the season at Elizabeth City State (N.C.) on Aug. 29, and faces Tuskegee a week later in Mobile. The home opener is Sept. 19 against Benedict.
