Tattnall’s Stubbs, Bears join area MLB signees

          Area baseball fans will have more pro teams to keep an eye on because of connections to Central Georgia.

          Tattnall grad Benjamin Stubbs is one of the latest to sign, joining Houston County alum Drew Burress and FPD grad Keon Johnson.

          Stubbs was picked in the ninth round by San Diego, with the 275th pick overall. That was slotted for a $205,000 bonus, and Stubbs signed – according to www.spotrac.com – for $25,000.

          Still, that’s more than six players chosen ahead of him in that round, including Georgia Tech’s Parker Brosius, who got only $500 ($212,000 slot) from the Braves.

          Garrett Lambert of Mercer was a sixth-round pick by Colorado, while teammate Chris Katz went in the ninth round to Arizona.

          The Rockies like Lambert, signing him for $550,000, $132,600 above slot. Katz matched Stubbs, getting $25,000 and going nine spots earlier, to Arizona. His slot figure was $209,500, a difference of $184,500

          Mercer pitcher Miguel Hugas – who was transferring to South Carolina - was taken in the 14th round by Baltimore, and signed for the slot figure of $150,000.

          The deadline to sign is Monday.

          Houston County grad, Class of 2026, Isaiah Galason hasn’t signed and wasn’t expected to, going in the 17th round. That’s good news for Georgia Tech.
