Henley turns in odd round, tied for last
Perhaps it’s fitting that after a few weeks where Russell Henley’s play has been a little inconsistent that he turned in the picture of consistency in the first round of the Tour Championship.
And is, ironically, tied for last, such as “last” is in the small field in the last FedExCup playoff tournament..
Henley’s odd round? All pars, not a bogey or birdie to be found.
That put him in a tie for 27th with Kristoffer Reitan and Cameron Young, both of whom had birdies and bogies, at the bottom of the leaderboard.
They sit eight shots behind leader Min Woo Lee.
Henley had a decent day off the tee, hitting 10 of 14 fairways to tie for fifth best. But he was around the bottom of the 29-player field – J.J. Spaun withdrew – in putting, shots gained, and putts per greens in regulation.
He was last in feet of putts made at 36-5.
Henley tees off at 11:12 a.m. on Friday with Reitan in the second group.
