Big win for Jasper County’s Pinkins

Dondrial Pinkins’ second game as Jasper County’s head coach big for two reasons.

First, the Hurricanes racked up their biggest wall-mounting head in a long time, taking down a ranked 4A school, and taking control in the second half. Stifling a Mary Persons comeback is more impressive than putting up 33 points on the Bulldogs.

Four of the last five teams to crack 30 on Mary Persons were region opponents, and one was its biggest rival. Two of the opponents were ranked at the time.

And Pinkins picked up his 100th career win, improving to 100-55. Through 13 seasons, at Mitchell County twice and Pelham, he has only three losing seasons.

Some polling

Nuggets from the Maxwell Ratings outside of where Central Georgia’s top 15 teams are in the Maxwell Ratings.

Mary Persons has dropped to 205, below No. 202 Stratford, No. 199 Lamar County, and No. 192 Jasper County, among others. Yet the Bulldogs are still tied for 11th in the human polls

As per the Maxwell computer, Dublin jumped from 108 to 67 among all classifications and to No. 1 in AA, Veterans moved up from 176 to 126. Perry fell from 83 to 115, and FPD rose 28 spots.

Windsor at 384 is ahead of Mount de Sales, Central, and Gatewood, among others.

And Spoon Risper’s current team is one spot ahead of his last team, No. 250 and 251.

Good starts for newbies

There are 10 new head coaches in Central Georgia, and two are 2-0.

It’s not a big surprise for Taylor County and Jess DeVoursney, nor for Macon County and Spoon Risper.

It’s a large surprise for Robert Slocum’s alma mater, Mount de Sales, and for Central and Jamoski Ward.

The Cavs haven’t had a winning season 2020, a year after their last 3-0 start. Slocum “retired” after the 2013 season, and had 3-0 starts this century only in 2010 and 2011.

He is now three games over .500 for his head coaching career.

Central ended its 22-game losing streak with a convincing – albeit weather-shorterned – 30-0 win over Greenville and followed with a not-surprising 42-0 romp over Jordan, which suffered its 56th straight loss.

Conversely, five others are awaiting their firt wins.
