Howard’s Poole state player of the week
The senior season for Howard football standout Ta’Shawn Poole is becoming a memorable one.
First, he became the first Macon player to make the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Super 11 team since that was started in 1985.
A few normal games into the season came the abnormal one: 9 catches, 249 yards, and 6 touchdowns in Howard’s 49-43 upset of Baldwin on Friday, adding 3 solo tackles and 4 assists.
It’s unofficially a state mark for touchdown catches in a game, and the yardage ranks in the top 40 all-time, as per records kept by the Georgia High School Football Historians Association, and second among Central Georgia players.
Now, he’s the first local player to be named the AJC/Georgia High School Football Daily state player of the week in the 7-year history of that honor.
Representatives will present him with the award at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
