Jones County mourns death of ’26 grad and softball player
Less than five months after celebrating graduation, Jones County’s Class of 2026 and softball program are in mourning.
Ella Jenkins died Sunday night in a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of Georgia Highway 31/Highway 441 and Springhaven Road, a few miles south of Exit 51 south of Dublin.
The Georgia State Patrol report indicates that Jenkins was the passenger in a Chevrolet Colorado driving down 31/441 in Laurens County on Sunday night.
The driver failed to stop at the intersection and hit a 1995 Peterbilt flatbed. The truck spun and pushed the Colorado into a Camaro.
Jenkins was ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Jenkins had moved up a step in her softball career and was in the first month of her freshman year at Brewton-Parker, where she was on the softball team. The school has yet to post the roster for the 2027 season.
Stats on her career at Jones County were not posted during her days as a Greyhound, where she played second base.
