Sunday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.

Mayhem dominate way to first-round series win

So much for the suspense of the first-game loss.

Eight different players scored and Charlie Finn rejected 40 shots as Macon hammer Evansville 8-0 to advance to the SPHL semifinals.

A four-goal third period was celebratory icing.

First-place Peoria swept Roanoke 3-2 and 4-1. Pensacola, which tied with Macon in total points in the regular season, was upset by fifth-place Knoxville, who matches up with Peoria.

Macon will take on Huntsville in the semifinals, with the first game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Huntsville, the series returning to Macon on Thursday and Friday.

Weather wins

Weather pushed the Braves-Cubs game to May 14 and cancelled the third game between Mercer and Georgia in softball.

College Baseball: Mercer

Mercer suffered its first series sweep since joining the Southern Conference, and was shutout for the second time in three games with a 4-0 loss at Samford.

It was the first time a conference team took all three from the Bears since Lipsomb did it in 2012 when Mercer was in the Atlantic Sun. The one run in three games is Mercer's worst in head coach Craig Gibson's tenure.

The last time Mercer was shut out twice in a conference series was in 2004, Gibson's first season, when the Bears lost 5-4, 3-0 and 2-0 to Gardner Webb.
