There’s a difference in NCAA Division II and III sports than Division I when it comes to the postseason.

Region polls come into play, and as with everything in college sports, media-ish polls and rankings are for talking, not seeding.

Nevertheless, Georgia College has something to talk about.

The Peach Belt regular-season and tournament champs may be the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Region portion of the NCAA Division II tournament, but Collegiate Baseball has Georgia College in a better position nationally.

          No. 1

The magazine/website boosted the Bobcats from a tie for sixth to No. 1 in the latest poll, a day after the NCAA announced the Division II field.

          Who’s No. 2? And by a point?

North Greenville, which is the top seed and host for the Southeast Region tournament this week, with Georgia College No. 2.

Georgia College is a regular occupant of the polls, but hasn’t been No. 1 since March 7, 2011.

The average Bobcat senior would have been a freshman in high school back then, the team featuring Shawn Ward, Tanner Funk, Mike Guinane, and Richard Pirkle, among others.

The Bobcats went 42-17 the year before, and finished 35-17 in 2011.

Georgia College is sixth in the college baseball writers poll, which won’t be updated until Wednesday.
