Georgia’s oldest sport wins its first NCAA title; Hall takes 11th

          The Georgia men’s track team won the NCAA track and field title Friday in Eugene, Ore.

          The Bulldogs scored 52 points, beating Florida’s 42, and fifth-place Alabama’s 33. The UGA women finished fourth with 14 points, Stanford taking the title with 25.

          Cassondra Hall, one of Central Georgia’s top track athletes of the last decade, took 11th in the 100 for LSU, in 11.19. Hall is a sophomore who spent her senior year at Warner Robins after transferring from Northside.

 

Macon picks up big road win

          Macon jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and cruised past host Lexington County 9-0 in Coastal Plain League action.

          The Bacon took advantage of four Blowfish errors, and were led by Perry/Georgia College outfielder Cal Gentry, who went 3-for-5 with two runs. Jared Kapturasky, Jackson Jones, and Kenton Crawford each had two RBI.

          Pitchers James Williams and Nathan Styles blanked Lexington County, Williams going seven.

          The 3-4 Bacon are off until a visit to Florence on Tuesday. They host Savannah at noon Wednesday.

 

Dodgers maintain home control over Braves

          Los Angeles did more with its runners than Atlanta, which stranded two more runners in a 7-3 loss.

          The Dodgers got two homers from Yasmani Grandall, and one from Joc Pederson, Max Muncy, and Cody Bellinger.

          Brandon McCarthy fell to 5-3, going 4.2 innings and giving up four runs and three homers.

 

 

Washington County’s Jackson takes Augusta track honor

          Washington County sophomore Mecca Jackson is the Augusta Chronicle’s girls track athlete of the year.

 

 

Georgia Tech spending bucks on facility

          The school is looking to raise $125 million for its next level of athletics development, including a new Edge Center and Russ Chandler renovations.
