College golf: GMC improves, settles for third in national championship

The status quo was good for Vincennes (Ind.) Community College, and Sandhills (N.Y) got better each round.
GMC couldnāt quite manage either.
The Bulldogs were unable to overcome a rugged third round and finished fourth Friday in the National Junior College Athletic Associationās national golf championship.
A 324 in the third round dropped the Bulldogs into a tied for second, and a 315 in the fourth round was passed by Sandhillsā 304. Minneosta State improved in the final two rounds to finish fourth.
Vincennes won with a 1237, 12 ahead of Sandhills and 23 better than GMC.
Four Bulldogs had better fourth rounds than third, Trey May improving by five strokes to finish at 309. Luke Ninnemanās 314 was second best for the Bulldogs.
May finished 10th and Ninneman 15th, Tompkinsā Dan Lapp taking first at 293, the only golfer under 300.
May and Ninneman are freshman, as is John James, who finished tied for 24th. Sophomore Tanner Casey, a Piedmont grad, tied for 26th for the defending champs.
