Tuesday's Braves Report: Late big-inning downs Braves; Folty to start, Gohara into rotation?; DL update, and more

Braves bid bye to first place

Julio Teheran gave the Braves a quality home start, but the bullpen didn’t give the Braves a quality home finish.

Teheran left with two outs in the seventh, having given up a run on three hits, but Toronto scored five in the eighth for a 6-2 win.

A.J. Minter coughed up four runs on three hits, getting one out in that eighth.

Ozzie Albies went 3-for-4 with two runs and Nick Markakis 2-for-, Kurt Suzuki adding two RBI.

Both teams had eight hits and stranded seven runners, but Atlanta had three errors.

Tonight's Jays starter Marcus Stroman has a 6.50 ERA through 10 starts. He made two effective starts after spending six weeks on the DL (right shoulder), but then allowed six earned vs. Mets on Wednesday. His 3.83 BB/9 is up from the 2.78 posted last year./MB

Braves are 22-15 with Acuna in the lineup. He's got five game-winning RBIs since coming up April 25. You nor I have any game-winning RBIs./GB

Folty will start on regular rest tomorrow. Had he waited to start Friday, his two starts sandwiching the AS break would have both been made with extended rest./MB

Freddie Freeman: We've forced our way onto the national stage./GB

Smoak's solo shot was the ninth homer Teheran has allowed over 16.2 IP vs. the Blue Jays since the start of 2015. The Nationals (15 in 68 IP) are the only other team to tally more than 8 HRs against him within this span./MB

Cubs 26-15 (.634) since May 25, 2nd best winning percentage in the N.L. (Dodgers, 26-14/.650) and 6th in majors. Cubs have won 9 of last 11 games following a 4-9 stretch from June 12-25./GB

Teheran threw a season-high 37 sliders (11 whiffs, 4 called strikes) during tonight's 107-pitch effort. Per Statcast, that's his third-highest total and eighth highest percentage (34.6) since the start of 2015./MB
