Andress has good first round of US. Amateur qualifer at the Brickyard (full results)

Ryan Marter is in the best shape of the more than 130 golfers who showed up at The Brickyard for the two-day U.S. Amateur Qualifier.
The Wofford sophomore golfer shot a 4-under 68 to finish the day with the top score, one shot up on former Georgia golfer Zachary Healy.
The field was cut to the 40 low scores, about 30 percent of the field, plus ties, and players within eight strokes of the final qualifying score. About 90 players made the cut.
Wilson Andress, a recent graduate of FPD who is headed to Georgia Southern, leads the Central Georgia contingent with an even 72, good for a tie for 13th. He countered five bogeys with five birdies.
John Walker of Macon is tied for 57th with a 4-over 76, and Troy-bound Houston County grad Brent Hamm is tied for 69th at 77, along with Will Chambless of Culloden/Stratford.
Jay Spivey of Macon’s 78 was good for a tie for 80th.
Coleman Tidwell Jr. of Macon shot an 80, and he was the first player who didn’t make the cut, joined by three others at 80.
Also missing the cut: Maconite Karim Muhammad, who plays at LeMoyne-Owen, with an 88, and Dodge County grad Michael Clardy with a 91.
