Savannah completes season-long control of Macon
Thoughts that Savannah’s ability to so regularly beat Macon could all be for naught in a one-game Coastal Plain League playoff game were pretty much put to sleep before the game reached its midway point.
Later on, those thoughts were obliterated with a late-game flurry as Savannah ended Macon’s season with a 15-4 win.
The Bananas advance having gone 14-3 against the Bacon, winning the 14 by an average of 5.4 runs.
Savannah led 2-1 after one, and then added two in the third and four in the fourth for an 8-1 lead. Macon got two back in the fifth – on a walk, single, wild pitch, grounder, and error - to get within five runs.
The Bananas needed one hit to get two runs in the seventh, and got five on five in the eighth, three coming on G. Delano’s homer to left.
Despite the lopsided score, Macon went down in order only in the second, third, and seventh.
Bill LeRoy (West Laurens) had two hits for Savannah, which was led by three-hit nights from Clay Dungan and Justin Dirden.
Hunter Phillips (Houston County) pitched the ninth for Savannah and gave up a one-out double to Conner Corbitt (Stratford).
Andres Perez led Macon (22-26) with two hits.
