Wednesday's Braves Report: Big win, Simpson in trouble again, money better for Liberty
Due to technical difficulties with the Internet connection, The Braves Report is abbreviated. Thursday’s will include some missed information, with apologies.
Acuna, Culberson leads Braves in an interesting game
Ronald Acuna belted a homer and robbed an opponent of one, and Charlie Culberson smashed one early to get the Braves going en route to an 8-3 win at Washington.
Atlanta scored took a 3-1 lead in the second on Culberson’s bomb and added four in the fourth, two coming on Acuna’s 452-foot shot.
Washington managed single runs in the fifth and sixth as the bullpen of Luke Jackson, Dan Winkler, and Brad Brach teamed for four hits, four strikeouts and no walks.
Mike Foltynewicz went 5.2 innings, with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Tyler Flowers had the rare monster offensive night, with three hits in four trips, two RBI and two runs. Culberson and Acuna each had two hits, Culberson three RBI and Acuna two.
Anthony Rendon had three hits and Matt Wieters two for the Nationals.
Weird? Washington’s Juan Soto was tossed in the sixth – right after a Bryce Harper homer - for arguing about balls and strikes from a previous at-bat, batting coach Kevin Long also earning an ejection as the Nationals did plenty of barking from the dugout.
