Monticello put 15 on the board in the second inning to roll in the first game of the 2A series. Lacey Rutledge drove in five runs with two hits, while Mackenzie Tripp, Mackenzie Abbott, and Madison Abbott all had three RBI each. Bailey Jenkins got the shortened win. John Milledge alum Harrison Bryant is the Mackey Tight End of the Week.
The Florida Atlantic junior had a career day in the 52-33 rout of Old Dominion. Bryant caught six passes for 133 yards, and two touchdowns, including a 44-yarder. He caught four first-down passes, and helped block for a 266-yard game for the Owls. ...
Houston County's Kor'Darius Melton is the defensive athlete of the week in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Melton scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in under 90 seconds on Saturday, bringing a fumble back eight yards, and then picking off a pass and returning it 27 yards for the score 85 seconds later, helping Ohio Wesleyan to a 49-7 win over Kenyon.
Ohio Wesleyan, which also got a fumble recovery from Melton to set up a field goal, is 2-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. ...
Peach County alum Mitchell Fineran added to the resume as the latest Southern Conference special teams player of the week, his third such honor during his freshman season.
Fineran helped Samford sweep the honors after going 9 for 9 in extra points along with a 40-yard field goal, and had three touchbacks. ...
