Mercer adds to football staff, Cronic intro coming
It’s been a week since Drew Cronic was named Mercer’s new head football coach, and he has some company, at least in name.
Tim Foster is the co-offensive coordinator, and Joel Taylor is the defensive coordinator, both coming to Mercer with Cronic from Lenoir-Rhyne.
Foster has been Lenoir-Rhyne’s passing game coordinator and WR/TE coach. He was also with Cronic at Reinhardt.
He was a two-sport athlete at Maryville in Tennessee, graduating in 2012.
Taylor was at L-R for one season after a few years The Citadel, helping the Bulldogs to a top-10 seed and home playoff game in 2016. That followed the second of two stints at South Carolina State, his alma mater, and another one-year stop at Lenoir-Rhyne.
Cronic will be introduced to fans on Friday as part of the women’s/men’s basketball doubleheader, the women with Gardner-Webb at 5 followed by the men against Furman.
There will be a fan/press gathering at 4 p.m. on the concourse, doors opening at 3 p.m. A reception will follow, before the start of the women’s game.
Admission is free to the basketball games with an advance ticket.
Alumni Update
Lamar County grad Tomiyah Alford is the Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball freshman of the week after scoring 13 points with two assists in Morehead State’s 93-48 loss to No. 9 Michigan State. She has played in all 10 games, and is averaging 8.9 points and 3 rebounds
Honor Roll
Mercer’s Ethan Stair is the SoCon men’s basketball player of the week.
