Baseball

ACE 10, Robert Toombs 1
Two errors and 13 walks helped ACE to 10 runs on only four hits, Trevor Derrick and Lem Thompson scoring twice. Fisher Timms threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and a walk.

Calvary Christian 4, Tattnall 1
The Trojans’ 30-game winning streak ended in fairly stunning fashion with a one-out walk-off three-run homer. Brett McHugh had two of Tattnall’s six hits. The Trojans got eight strikeouts from Hunter Alexander and Russ Miller, but couldn’t take advantage of five walks, stranding a whopping 14 runners, twice as many as Calvary Christian.

ELCA 3, Stratford 1
The Eagles went down 3-0 after one and couldn’t get the offense going. John Morgan Manley had two hits for Stratford, which got six strikeouts and one walk from Ben Jamison in six innings.

FPD 6, Signal Mountain 5
The Vikings were sparked by Harrison Aulds’ two-run homer, his third of the year.

Gatewood 9, Brairwood 0
Gatewood had a quality ā€œJohnny Wholestaffā€ day on the mound with five pitchers combing for a one-hitter. James Williamson, who started and went three innings, led the offense with two hits and two RBI. Preston Brown and Luke Haley scored two runs each.

Harris County 17, Veterans 8; Harris County 10, Veterans 9
The Warhawks trailed 7-5 entering the seventh, and Harris County dropped 10 runs on the home team, which countered with three. Clifford Pless and Carter King split half of Veterans’ eight hits. In the nightcap, Veterans put forth an epic comeback in the seventh, down 10-1, but came up a run short with the tying run on third and winning run on second, Harris County getting a three-pitch strikeout to end it. Veterans pieced together a double, seven singles, a fielder’s choice, and two walks for eight runs, Zach Mathis with a two-run single and two runs coming in on Jacob Pierce’s single. Pierce, Matthew Tanner, Jackson Williams, and Mathis had two hits each to back up Hamilton Mason’s three hits.

Houston County 4, Valdosta 2
The Bears got everything, and everything they needed, in the fifth. It was all small-ball in the inning, two runs coming in on an error on Coleman Willis’ grounder, the other two runs coming on grounders. Cameron Jones had two hits for the Bears, boosted by Jaden Woods and Chandler Dawson (five Ks, 0 BBs in 2.1 IP) on the mound.

Jackson 3, Rutland 1
Jackson’s pitching helped the Red Devils survive four errors in holding Rutland down with nine strikeouts for a two-hitter. The Hurricanes got enough runners to strand eight of them.

Jones County 13, Eagles Landing 2
A six-run third put the Greyhounds in charge. Chase Wright, Seth Daniels, Chandler Wooten, and Dalton Chapman had two hits each, with two RBI from Barnes, Daniels, Wooten, Chase Green, and Brandin Johnson. Colby Gordon struck out five in the five-inning five-hitter.

Lee County 4, Northside 2; Lee County 14, Northside 2
Jacob Catey had two of Northside’s five hits in the opener. Lee County led 9-1 after three in the nightcap, and held the Eagles to three hits.

Mary Persons 12, Spalding 6

West Laurens 11, Upson-Lee 2
The Raiders led 3-2 after three and put five up in the fifth. Brody Slaughter went 3-for-4 with five RBI and Tyler Franks 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Raiders. Alex Blount had three of Upson-Lee’s six hits. Colton Scott had six strikeouts in five innings for West Laurens.
