Braves Report: There have been better openers

          The team that spent money got to the bullpen of the team that doesn’t spend all that money. And made it pay.

          The Phillies knocked around four relievers for  three hits but six runs – all earned – after taking over for Julio Teheran, who fanned seven with two walks for three runs in five innings.

Mercer finalizes football staff changes

          Chase Haslett is joining the Mercer football staff as the final edition after an offseason of major re-tooling.

          Haslett, father of former NFL player and head and assistant coach Jim, spent 2018 at Mississippi State at a quality control assistant and offensive skill position coach. The Bulldogs went 8-5 and played in the Outback Bowl.

          He has also been an assistant at Nebraska.

          Haslett played quarterback in college at Illinois and Indiana University of Pa.,

          Haslett earned his bachelor of science in recreation, sport and tourism from the University of Illinois in 2014 and his master of science in sport science from IUP in 2015.

          “Chase is going to be a great fit for Mercer as our new tight ends coach,” head coach Bobby Lamb said in a release. “He had a connection with (offensive coordinator) Bill Legg at Mississippi State and is another young, energetic coach that we’ve added to our staff this offseason. Chase has a strong knowledge of the game, coming from a successful football family.”

          Jim Haslett was the 1979 NFL defensive rookie of the year, and NFL coach of the year 21 years later with New Orleans.
