Macon overcomes early deficit, rolls past Savannah
Down 2-1 after one, Macon scored five runs in the next three innings and then dealt a knockout punch with three in the sixth en route to a 9-3 win over Savannah at Luther Williams Field.
Macon took sole possession of first in the division, a game up on Savannah, but the teams play again Saturday in Savannah.
Alex Canty went 3-for-5 for Macon, while Jared Miller, Roury Glanton, Cal Gentry (Perry/Georgia College) added two hits and two runs each.
Veterans grad Preston Sparks went seven innings, striking out four with no walks, allowing three runs on six hits for the win, improving to 3-0.
Macon is at Savannah on Saturday and Sunday, then at Gastonia on Monday.

Dallas Keuchel found out what other Atlanta starters knew: sometimes the offense is just so-so.
Atlanta scored three in the second and third innings and nothing after that, so the four runs that Keuchel gave up in five innings in his Atlanta debut were enough for Washington in a 4-3 win.
Atlanta’s bullpen gave up no hits or runs in three innings.
Josh Donaldson was Atlanta’s only two-hit batter, Austin Riley driving in two runs as Atlanta’s offense was 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
