Wednesday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.
Georgia College reaches to Division I for new women’s BKB coach
The seventh head women’s basketball coach in Georgia College history has been winning as a coach on pretty much all levels.
He grew up around winning. His sister played for Pat Summitt, and has a new job herself: head women’s basketball coach at Tennessee.
So talking basketball isn’t a problem for Ross Jolly, announced Wednesday as the Bobcat women’s new boss.
He has coached at Radford, North Greenville, UNC Wilmington, and Tusculum.

Braves Report
New York went up 2-1, then watched Atlanta small-ball its way to the lead – the baseballs were not exactly bruised with soft, well-placed bloops – and a 6-4 win before less than 24,000 at SunTrust.
Dallas Keuchel turned in one of his best performances as a Brave, going six shutout innings with five hits, seven strikeouts and and two walks. He left with a 1-0 lead that became a 2-1 deficit in the top of the seventh.
Mets reliever Seth Lugo wasn’t exactly hammered in the bottom of the seventh., but he couldn’t get anybody out as the Braves dropped soft hits just over the infield and in front of the outfielders.
A walk to Josh Donaldson was followed by singles from Adam Duvall, Johan Camargo, Ender Inciarte, Tyler Flowers, and Matt Joyce. Joyce’s liner was nearly caught, but it short-hopped and led to a force at second for the first out.
Ronald Acuna singled to end Lugo’s night, but Ozzie Albies singled for another run before Freddie Freeman’s inning-ending double play.
Shane Greene broke his streak of struggling performances with a perfect eighth inning.
Mark Melancon did not break such a streak.
The Braves missed on a game-ending double play when Camargo bobbled the transfer from glove to hand in trying to get the out at second. The play was challenged and went New York’s way to load the bases, Melancon having given up two runs on four hits to that point.
So with the bases loaded and an out, on came Wilson Ramos, owner of four career grand slams. He struck out on a low breaking ball, and on came Jerry Blevins, who whiffed Michael Conforto on three pitches to end it.
Inciarte was the lone two-hit Brave, and Freeman the lone no-hit Brave, excluding pitchers.
