Dodge County alum, FVSU senior on national list

There are several dozen players on the watch list for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award.

          One is from Central Georgia.

Camron Young, a senior defensive back at Fort Valley State, is on the first collection of players on the watch list.

Young is one of seven players from the SIAC on the list, which includes players from FCS HBCU-oriented conferences as well as Division II.

Four finalists will be announced on Dec. 3 with the winner of the Deacon Jones Trophy honored on Feb. 15, 2020 in Atlanta.

Mayhem send Sutliffe to Evansville, add Fotino

Derek Sutliffe had a solid season last year with the Macon Mayhem.

Evansville hopes he does it again, but with the Thunderbolts

The Mayhem traded Sutliffe to Evansville on Thursday for right-winger Chase Hatcher and future considerations.

Sutliffe was second in goals behind Jake Trask after coming to Macon from Mississippi.

A veteran goaltender is the latest addition to the Macon Mayhem's preseason roster.

Alex Fotino joins Kevin Entmaa in front of the net for Macon, which opens the season on Oct. 18. The 24-year-old has fairly recently concluded his college career at York U. in Toronto, following a notable youth and junior career.

Mike Chemello is back with the Mayhem for a training camp tryout. The forward played in 29 games last year, also suiting up for Elmira of the Federal Hockey League.

Braves Report

For a change, the bullpen sweating things out wasn’t Atlanta’s.

The Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth, after Julio Teheran’s night ended stunningly early in an impending blowout, to make things tight, but the rally ended and the Mets held on 10-8.

The Mets hammered Braves pitching for a whopping 23 hits, more than double the Braves output, with eight off Teheran and 10 off x Tomlin in five innings.

Rookie Pete Alonso belted his 39th homer for the Mets, one of his five hits and six RBI. Amed Rosario went 5-for 6 with four runs from the leadoff spot, and Wilson Ramos had four hits in six trips

Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson had two homers each and teamed for five RBI, Atlanta belting six homers for the 10th time in franchise history.
