Football, football, football

In The Latest Coverage is a heaping helping of preseason Central Georgia football information, from scouting reports to a preseason All-CGA team, plus preseason polls and predictions for Friday’s action.

More to come throughout the weekend.

Week One was wet and bright and funky

Kickoffs were delayed and delayed, games didn’t end until way after midnight, and some games were just stopped.

Catch up in The Latest Coverage, and come back around 11 a.m. for any updates.

Coming Saturday is a look at the afternoon’s Macon Touchdown Club Middle Georgia Kickoff Classic with Southwest vs. Westside and Washington County vs. Baldwin, plus a note on who the Classic’s ceremonial head coach – a local and state legend – is.

Cephus can play in 2019

The weekend got off to a good start for Quintez Cephus and the Wisconsin football team.

Only days after Wisconsin reinstated him completely, the NCAA has apparently ruled Cephus eligible to play this year.

He was suspended from the team last August, and expelled from Wisconsin last spring.

Cephus Tweeted the news around lunchtime.

Wisconsin officials finally confirmed the NCAA’s move later Friday, but there was no media access on Friday to Badger players or coaches.

Wisconsin opens the season on Friday against South Florida.

Braves Report

New Brave Billy Hamilton drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 14th, and the otherwise dominated Braves pulled out a 2-1 win over the New York Mets.

Atlanta batters struck out a major-league record 26 times, half coming at the arm of Jacob deGrom.

Ronald Acuna become the second-youngest member of the 30-30 homer/steals club, at 21.

Hamilton came on in the 10th as a pinch-runner, so his heroics were unexpected, as was a homer by deGrom, who threw seven innings of one-run action.
