Weather only delays big nights for Westside and Washington County

          Barely a minute into the Macon Touchdown Club’s Middle Georgia Kickoff Classic opener, weather took over for a few hours, and then stayed away. Westside went on to thump Southwest and Washington County popped Baldwin. Details in The Latest Coverage.

Houston County 13, Etowah 5

          Eight runs in the fifth broke a 5-all tie. Lauren Ross had three hits for Houston County, which got two-hit games from Makayla Krepps, Kendall Huelsman, Averi Martin, and Bobbi Poff, who had four RBI.

Houston County 8, Sonoraville 0

          Olivia Brown struck out seven with no walks for a no-hitter, the Bears holding on to a 1-0 lead until one in the fifth and six in the sixth. Madi Campbell had two hits and three RBI and Rylee Lamb two its for Houston County.

Mary Persons 8, Northside 5

          A pair of back-to-back three-run innings lifted the Bulldogs, who were outhit by three but helped by two errors. Ayma Smith had three hits and two RBI for the Eagles, Casey Ruffin and Celena Luna adding two hits each.

Mary Persons 6, Rutland 3

          The Bulldogs led 2-0 after one, trailed 3-2 after the fifth, but had consecutive two-run innings to win, helped by five Rutland errors and four unearned runs.

Mount de Sales 5, George Walton 4; George Walton 12, MdS 3

          Heartly Nepveux’s single to left brought in P Barfield with the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth. Barfield led off with a single, advanced on a bunt and reached third on the play on an error, and came in one walk later. Nepveaux, Jordyn Partain, and McKenna Smith had two hits each and Partain two RBI for MdS. Partain went all nine innings for the win. In the night cap, GW’s five-run third was the key, along with three MdS errors. Partain had two hits and three RBI.

Rutland 5, Northside 2

          The Hurricanes scored three in the third and that was enough, despite being outhit by one.

Nicole Morales had two hits for the Eagles.

Tattnall 8, West Laurens 1

          A close two-run came was pretty much put away with Tattnall’s four-run fifth. Jaelyn Darley, Courtney Ball, and Kenna Epps had two hits each for the Trojans, Lindsey Paul and Grace Hiller adding two RBI each. Epps got the complete-game win.

 

Braves Report

          Billy Hamilton is doing a little more than Atlanta expected, which, of course, is fine.

          He came up big at the plate again and added a big hustle play on the bases to help Atlanta to a 9-5 win over the New York Mets.

          Max Fried gave up all five Mets runs, in five innings, on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Three relievers allowed four hits and no runs.

          Francisco Cervelli went 3 for 5 with three RBI and Rafael Ortega added two hits.
