NCAA drops a hammer on Georgia Tech hoops

Georgia Tech has known for awhile punishment was coming.

But the basketball program got punished a bit harder than most expected.

The one-year ban from the NCAA Tournament (and ACC Tournament) hurt, although the Jackets haven’t made the NCAAs since 2010. There was nothing in the sanctions about participating in any other postseason tournament.

Head coach Josh Pastner avoided punishment outside of an admonishment by Tech and athletics director Todd Stansbury.

General reaction was one of surprise that Tech was hit so hard compared to lesser punishments of bigger programs for worse violations.
