Class 6A
Richmond Hill 52, Northside 12
Turnovers killed the Eagles, who were down 31-0 at halftime, 21-0 before four minutes had passed in the first quarter. Richmond Hill’s first two scores came on a fumble recovery and interception. Running back Ashaud Roberson ran 19 times for 134 yards, for a chunk of the hosts 244 yards in total offense, not much more than Northside’s 211.
Class 5A
Jones County 62, Union Grove 22
As expected, the Greyhounds righted things, leading 34-9 at halftime for their first win of the year after playing ranked teams in 7A and 5A. Union Grove got the first lead, on a field goal halfway through the first, but the Greyhounds got a rushing TD and took the lead for good a few minutes later. Jones County ran for six touchdowns and passed for four.
Warner Robins 44, Houston County 10
The Demons scored on a flurry in the second quarter on a fumble recovery by Deuce Petty, bad punt snap, and interception return for a 27-0 halftime lead. Daniel Barber had two field goals during the scoring surge, which included only one touchdown from an offensive possession. Armon Porter and QB Jalen Addie had TD runs in the second half, Addie’s an 84- yarder.
Class 4A
Rutland 50, ACE 21
The Gryphons made the Hurricanes sweat, trailing by six at halftime before Rutland started taking control.
Howard 17, Effingham County 14
The Huskies trailed 14-10 at halftime on the road, and then got a 1-yard Dajon James score a few minutes into the fourth for the lead, and came up with a fumble recovery to stop one threat and a Julian Jones interception late for another stop.
Veterans 24, Perry 14
The Panthers didn’t let the 5A No.5 team run away, trailing only 10-0 at halftime. Perry got within three on Makeil Kendrick’s long TD run early in the third quarter, but Veterans answered quickly with a TD pass of similar length, adding another TD pass in the final four minutes or the third. The Panthers got back to within 10 midway through the fourth on Lane Rucker’s pass to Daequan Wright, but the Veterans defense finished things off.
Westside 35, Southwest 6
The Seminoles blew it open in the first half en route to a 28-6 halftime lead.
Class 3A
Central 23, Americus-Sumter 11
The Chargers are 1-0 in region play for the first time since 2017.
Peach County 42, Mary Persons 7
The Trojans have outscored the Bulldogs 86-20 in the past two seasons, this one coming in the region opener.
Upson-Lee 41, Pike County 0
It’s the Knights’ first shutout since 24-0 over Howard on Oct. 21, 2016, and biggest region win since 42-0 over Stockbridge in 2004. They led 34-0 at halftime, getting started with a 51-yard rushing score early in the game, adding a passing and rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

Dodge County at Whitfield Academy, Saturday, 2 p.m.
Jasper County/Monticello 30, Greene County 6
The Hurricanes led 16-0 at halftime en route to their first win.
Northeast 14, Monroe 12
The 2-1 Raiders are off to their best start since 3-0 in 2017.
Washington County 17, Evans 7
It was 7-all at halftime, WACO taking the lead with a field goal in the final seconds of the third quarter. The Golden Hawks defense was big, and the offense got the game-winner by Malyk Walker from 41 yards out early in the fourth.
Putnam County 37, Westside-Augusta 14
The War Eagles have given up all of 16 points in four games, and are 1-0 in region play for the first time since 2015. They led 20-14 at halftime and threw a second-half shutout.
Class A
Creekside Christian 40, Wilkinson County 14
The Warriors went down hard to a GISA Class AAA team.
Calvary Day 42, FPD 17
The Vikings were in a 21-3 halftime hole, breaking the shutout shortly before intermission, which came right after Calvary Day was off on a 61-yard field goal try. A holding call killed a 75-yard KO return by the Vikings after Calvary Day added a pick-6 TD off a tipped pass. The Cavs added a score on the final play of the third quarter.
Hancock Central 36, GMC 7
Big plays led the way for Hancock Central, which scored inside the first two minutes. Qeontavious Ivey scored four times.
Dublin 42, Swainsboro 14
The well-rested Irish had little rust, charging out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and cruising on rushing TDs from Markelle Mitchell (10 yards) and Qua Ashley (78 yards) and then a pick-6 by Kendall Wade.Ashley added a 50-yarder in the third quarter, and Josh Isaac another INT for a TD in the fourth.
Macon County 63, Central Talbotton 6
The No. 3 Bulldogs last cracked 60 points not that long ago, 68-0 over Twiggs County in early 2018.
Montgomery County 21, Hawkinsville 19
Montgomery County came back from a 19-9 deficit to win it with about two minutes left.
Stratford 20, Mount Paran 0
Mark Farriba got his 200th career win with the Eagles’ first shutout since thumping Twiggs County 36-0 near the end of the 2018 season. Keondre Glover’s short run five seconds into the second quarter was all the Eagles needed on homecoming and stadium dedication night.
Savannah Country Day 28, Tattnall 24
The Trojans led 21-0 after three quarters, and the visitors stormed back in the fourth for the shocking win. SCD returned a fumble for a score to get within 24-21 with 2:28 left, recovered the onside kick, and scored soon after to hand the Trojans their first loss of the season.
Taylor County 48, Greenville 19
The No. 8 Vikings had little trouble improving to 3-0 for the first time since 2017, which included a 58-22 win over Greenville.

Crawford County was blanked for the second game in a row.

A schedule change had no impact on the Trojans, who took the foot off the gas in the second half after getting all their points in the first half.

Westfield 21, Southland 19
The homecoming win lifted the Hornets to their first 2-0 start since 2014.
Brentwood 41, Thomas Jefferson 0
The War Eagles averaged 6.6 yards per run and gave up a yard per run in the rout. Thomas Denton went off for 129 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, about 10 yards a pop. Three others ran at least four times en route to a 295-yard team rushing night. Wells Muller and Robert Jackson led the shutout-throwing defense. Oddly, the first quarter and fourth quarter were scoreless for the War Eagles.
