Tuesday's Daily News 'n Notes: GISA updates plans; Baldwin's Hicks not happy; local golfers struggle; Braves, United, Frenchy/COVID, and more

Tuenday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.
GISA makes changes for many sports, other than fall
A day after the GHSA made some moves, the GISA did the same.
The GISA will start acclimation workouts on Aug. 3, for two weeks, with Aug. 17 the first day of pads practice. Like the GHSA, Sept. 4 is the first Friday of football games.
Among the Central Georgia crossover games: Stratford at Westfield; Creekside Christian at Wilkinson County; John Hancock at Glascock County; GMC at Creekside Christian.
The playoffs have been cut to three rounds because of exams, so the top eight teams will make the postseason.
The starting periods for softball, volleyball, cross country, and fall soccer remains the same. A week has been added to winter and spring sports seasons, with the same starting dates.

Around/About Central Georgia
Baldwinâs Hicks unhappy with GHSA decision
No major decision-makers have consulted Baldwin head football coach Jesse Hicks about the 2020 season.
Theyâd have gotten an earful.
Central Georgiaâs ninth-winningest coach doesnât think there should be football in the state with the COVID-19 numbers anywhere near where they are.
âWhen it comes to putting their lives in jeopardy, just to play a sport, because of politics and economics, I think that is wrong,â Baldwin said. âI would never play football. ⊠Thereâs a pandemic we donât have an answer for. There are too many unknowns.â
Hicks talked to Scott MacLeod of Lake Area Sports with the Oconee Radio Group, which covers high school and college teams in Baldwin County.
The GHSA voted Monday to push back the start of this season by two weeks while keeping the preseason schedule intact, save for moving scrimmages back as well.
Rough womenâs state amateur for Central Georgia trio
Mailey Buzzell, Jirapon Carlson, and Lucy Wiegert could never quite get going in the GSGA womenâs state amateur in Savannah.
Of the nine combined rounds, only Cochranâs Wiegert broke 80, and only once, in the final round.
Buzzell finished 37th with a 33-over 249, 30 strokes behind winner Sara Imm of Duluth in a seven-hole playoff over Thienna Huynh of Lilburn. There were only two par rounds on the final day Tuesday.
