Bibb County to resume athletics

Last week’s protocols from the GHSA have led to Bibb County announcing a resumption of high school sports.

Softball and cross country can return to normal competition next week, with volleyball on Sept. 7, and football on Sept. 17-18-19.

Details on bands performing at events will be worked out.

Schedules are expected to be updated later this week.

Stadium capacity will be limited to about 20 percent, and seats will be marked. The county will use a cashless app, GoFan, for tickets.

General game-day operations, as per the release:

*Students and coaches will have their temperature and symptom check prior to boarding the bus for away games or upon arrival for home games. Temperatures above 100.4 will be isolated

for 10 min and rechecked. If the temperature is still over 100.4 the athlete will be isolated with mask on until parent or guardian arrives for pick up.

*Students or coaches identified from the screening process as having signs or symptoms that might suggest COVID-19, must follow BCSD Covid-19 protocol before rejoining team. (attached)

*Symptom checks should be given more consideration than temperature checks.

Game Day Face Mask Covering

*Face masks must be worn when traveling to and from athletic venues.

*When riding on bus only one person per seat is allowed.

*Upon arrival at contest venue face masks must be worn at all times when not actively participating in game or activity that would increase demand on cardiorespiratory system.

          *Masks must not be shared.

*Cloth face coverings that tie around the head or loop around the ear are recommended if used with a helmet.

*All game day personnel will be required to wear face coverings.

*All spectators will be required to wear a face covering upon entering game sites. Masks can be removed while seated and social distanced.

Sidelines and Benches

*Each side line should be furnished with hand sanitizer.

*Teams should follow hydration plan. “Waterboys” or “cows” will not be allowed in stadium.

*All benches and tables will be sanitized prior to and after games.

*Sideline personnel will be limited to athletes, coaches, medical staff and game day staff.

Venue Restrictions

*Seating will be limited to 6ft social distancing protocol.

          * Visiting bands will not be allowed.

*Spectators will be restricted from direct competition areas and from visiting players and personnel before and after games.

*Only water, soft drinks and pre-packaged items will be allowed for sell.

*Concession items must be sold outside of fixed stand. No one will be allowed inside of concession stand.

*All gate admissions will be cashless based on stadium capacity with social distancing rules in  force. All gate workers will wear masks and gloves.

*A clear bag policy will be in place for admission to all athletic events.

Baldwin to play reduced schedule

A day before Bibb County’s release, Baldwin announced a three-game region/local schedule for football, volleyball, and softball.

The opener is now Oct. 9 against Westside, at home and now designated as senior night.
