Alumni Update

Houston County, UGA grad Fromm released by Detroit

Around/About Central Georgia

Dublin promotes Dodge County alum as new girls basketball coach

          Michelle Mitchell had good timing.

A year after joining the Dublin staff of then-new head coach Monte Killins, Mitchell has been promoted to take over the program.

Dublin finished 9-17 in Killins lone season, with six losses by 10 points or less.

The 2008 Dodge County grad earned all-state honors under legendary head coach Dick Kelly.

She racked up junior college All-America honors at Darton State, went to Troy for academics and not basketball, but transferred to Division II Columbus  State, where she was a two-time All-American after setting the program mark for scoring average, among other records, and joined the CSU Hall of Fame in 2022.

          More, from Dublin City Schools:

“A native of Eastman, Georgia, Mitchell’s basketball journey began at Dodge County High School, where she earned MVP and Player of the Year honors and led her team to a region championship in 2008. She continued her athletic career at Darton State College, achieving All-American status and being named Region XVII Player of the Year.

“Mitchell then transferred to Columbus State University, where she became the all-time leading scorer for the Lady Cougars and the only two-time All-American in the program’s history. Her tenure included leading the team to consecutive Peach Belt Conference regular-season and tournament championships during the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons.

“After her collegiate success, Mitchell played professionally overseas from 2016 to 2019, gaining valuable international experience. She returned to Columbus State as a graduate assistant for 2022–23 season. Her coaching career also includes positions at Lakeside High School and Mitchell County High School … .

“Mitchell holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbus State University, as well as an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Darton College.”
