There’s almost no reason for a meet and greet for Jones County’s latest head coach addition.
Dylan Dupree just changes his schedule a little bit, moving from girls assistant to head boys basketball coach, as approved Tuesday night by the Jones County Board of Education.
He succeeds Willie Reese, who went 7-18 in his lone season in the job, having been hired just 13 months ago. He resigned in April.
Dupree is the program’s third head coach in three years. He sat alongside Buck Harris, who left for Northside almost two years ago. ChaRhonda Harris departed the head girls basketball job for Northside at the same time, leaving Jones County with two openings.
Dupree joined new girls head coach Takeo Gray and helped the team to a 27-2 record, undefeated in Region 2-4A play.
The 2011 Jones County graduate played in college at Chipola Junior College and West Georgia.
Covenant hires former Georgia College hoops star
The next head girls basketball coach at Covenant brings one of the top resumes in a long time to the Rams’ athletics department.
The school announced on social media on Monday the hiring of Jeremy Mayweather.
In two years playing at Georgia College, he led the Bobcats to the Southeast Region title game as a senior, and was the Peach Belt Conference player of the year and honorable mention National Association of Basketball Coaches All-American.
Mayweather was head boys basketball coach at Tattnall in 2019-20, then took over the girls program a year later, also serving as the middle school dean.
He moved back to Milledgeville as head girls basketball coach and assistant for girls track and cross county at John Milledge in 2021-22, through 2023-24. He didn’t coach last year.
The Trojans went to the GIAA Class AAA Final Four in two of his three seasons as head coach.
Mayweather has been an assistant Georgia College, Armstrong State, and Central Georgia Tech.
