          The bottom of the lineup did some damage for the Bears in the opener, with 5 hits and 2 runs. Houston County put 3 across in the fourth for the lead, on RBI singles from Noah Odom. Vick Gann, and Isaiah Galason. The teams traded runs in the fifth, and winning pitcher Will Allen stranded two runners in the sixth and seventh innings. He fanned four with a walk, allowing 4 hits. Three in the fifth put Houston County (33-5) up 4-2 in the nightcap, the rally starting with a bases-loaded hit batter, single runs coming in on Ethan Buffone’s fielder’s choice and then a wild pitch. Reliever Tyson Ganas closed the door on the Red Devils (29-8) in the final two innings for the save, Max Wilhide with the win. Galason had 3 hits and Allen 2 while Logan Elble and Buffone had 2 RBI each. The Bears (33-5)  now get Newnan in the best-of-three 5A championship series starting on Monday at Coolray Stadium in Lawrenceville.

Cherokee Bluff 6, Peach County 4; Peach County 12, Cherokee Bluff 6; Game 3, 1 p.m. Wednesday
          The visitors (26-12) trailed 3-0 after 4, but put up 5 runs in the sixth for the lead, and held the Trojans (35-3) to a run in the bottom half, and stranded two runners in the bottom of the seventh. Rigsby Booth had 2 of Peach County’s 5 hits. Both pitching staffs struck out two more batters than they walked. The Trojans’ bats got going early in the nightcap, with a run in the first and then 7 in the next two innings. The lead was 12-2 before the Bears made it respectable with 3 in the bottom of the seventh. Booth had 3 hits and 3 RBI, Owen Meredith 2 hits, the Trojans stealing 10 bases. DJ Hudson went 6 innings to get the win.

          Central celebrated several signings on Tuesday: Dakota Rowley to Reinhardt for flag football, Aaron Baldwin to Mayville State (N.D.) for men’s basketball, Brianna Pryor to Paine for softball, Jikaylee Marshall to Central Georgia Tech for women’s basketball, and Frances Anyakudo and Jazlyn Johnson to Alcorn State for women’s basketball.

          Crawford County’s Phallen Fields has signed to play volleyball at Wesleyan.

          Julian Council, winner of several GHSA track and cross country state titles at GMC Prep, has signed to continue at West Alabama, while Meadow Roberts will do track at Augusta University.
