Cherokee Bluff 15, Peach County 2, 6 inn., Game 3
A 2-1 game got out of hand after the visitors scored 5 in the third and 2 in the fourth to take control. Up 9-2, the Bears dealt the knockout punch with 6 in the sixth, Cherokee Bluff starter T Holton keeping the Peach County offense flat-footed in a 4-hitter, with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. The Trojans gave up 9 hits, but walked 8 batters and had 3 errors, combined to lead to a whopping 8 unearned runs. The Trojans ended the epic season 35-4.

Henley looks for rebound, consistency at PGA Championship

There have been a few Russell Henley’s this year.

There’s the one who reeled off nine straight sub-70 rounds early, then four plus-70 rounds out of five, following a sixth-place finish and a win with a missed cut in Augusta a week later, to the Henley who shot a whopping 146 in the middle rounds last week at the Truist.

So when Henley tees off at 1:58 p.m. on Thursday at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, it’s anybody’s guess which one shows up.

History doesn’t offer any clue, with an average finish of tied for 43rd at the PGA, and only one top-15 weekend. He’s shot over par in four full events, but did tie for 23rd last year with a 10-under visit to Valhalla in Louisville.

In 11 starts, Henley has missed three cuts. He was 12 over for a tied for 71st in the 2017 PGA at Quail Hollow.

Good starts have been followed by so-so play, and inauspicious first rounds have been followed by some solid golf.

He followed first rounds of 72, 72, and 79 with a 64 and 65. That second 72? Came in early March when he sharpened up to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Henley is No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings and No. 6 in the FedExCup rankings, so he’s naturally considered a player to watch, but he’ll need to be sharper on his short game and putting on a long course than he’s been the past few tournaments.
