West Laurens takes state golf title
For the first time since 1995, a Central Georgia team is the GHSA state boys golf champion.
West Laurens finished the two-day tournament first in Class AAA boys, breaking a Central Georgia drought sicne Perry won the AA championship in 1991. But the Raiders aren’t the first Laurens County champ. Dublin won Class AA in 1965
GMC Prep’s boys finished second in Class A/Division II, 84 shots behind Lake Oconee and 23 ahead of Schley County.
Coverage is very limited, because the GHSA doesn’t publicly provide full scores at the end of the day. Those interested in information must subscribe to an app until results are eventually posted.
The Raiders shot a 53 over 629, topping North Hall by eight and LaGrange by nine shots.
Freshman Braceton Beasley was the low medalist with a 1-over 145.
West Laurens’ boys were in 4A last year and didn’t make the state tournament, but the girls finished ninth, Kate Belote eighth among individuals.
As per social media postings by schools: GMC Prep’s Grant Edens was fifth in boys A/II and Made Grace Simmons seventh in girls A/II.
