Around/About Central Georgia
Central Fellowship goes for another state title
Five players from Central Fellowship made the GIAA Class AA girls all-state soccer team a year ago, not long after the Lancers worked their way through the postseason to win the state championship.
All five of those players were underclassmen, which bad news for the opposition in 2025. And now, here is Central Fellowship back again, with a state title on the line Tuesday.
The Lancers face Westminster Christian at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stratford for the GIAA state title in a battle of the top two seeds.
St. Andrews faces Frederica and Brookstone battles St. Anne-Pacelli in the other two finales.
Westminster beat Gatewood and Georgia Christian, in the playoffs while Central Fellowship topped Heritage and Sherwood Christian.
CFCA is 19-2-1 and Westminster is 15-1-1. The Lions’ lone loss? To CFCA, 3-1 back on April 22. They followed that with consecutive 10-0 wins over Monsignor Donovan.
Central Fellowship is on a six-game winning streak, since losing to 4A semifinalist Stratford 3-1 on April 15.
Faith Lawhead leads Westminster with 38 goals and 16 assists. She was among five Westminster all-staters, four of whom were underclassmen.
Returning state player of the year Lois Tanner has 40 goals and Morgan Riley 13 assists for the Lancers, with Emory Andrews in goal for a team that’s given up only 11 goals.
