Around/About Central Georgia

Central Fellowship does it to Westminster again for title (Click here for full story)

After a scoreless first half, the defending state champs got going, sparked by returning all-stater Lois Tanner, who scored both goals, Layla Wagner assisting on the first goal.

Tanner’ second goal came on a penalty kick after a Lancer was shoved in the box, coming less than 10 minutes after her first goal, when she drilled it in after a defensive deflection off a Wagner try.

Emory Andrews turned in a solid afternoon in the goal.

It was a same story, different year scenario. Central Fellowship topped Westminster – which edged Trinity Christian for the trophy in 2023 – 2-0 a year ago, both goals again coming from Tanner, then a freshman.

CFCA finishes 20-2-1, and Westminster 15-2-1.

Stratford goes for repeat state title at home

          A rematch for a repeat?

That’s the scenario Wednesday night when Stratford takes on St. Anne-Pacelli in the final GIAA soccer game of the season, the Class AAAA boys championship.

It’s set for the Hutchinson Complex’s Spencer Hays Field at Stratford, home for the second year for the GIAA soccer championships.

The Eagles are 16-3, while the Vikings are 10-5.

St. Anne-Pacelli returns three all-staters in Jack Fry< Noah Bowers, and Devon Singleton.

The fourth-seeded Vikings have won four straight, and six of their last seven. They beat Cristo Rey Atlanta 3-0 and Tallulah Falls 3-1 in the playoffs.

After a first-round bye as the second seed, Stratford has taken out Bulloch and Calvary Christian in the playoffs.

The Eagles had a huge battle last week, not scoring until 45 seconds remained when freshman Brady Flournoy scored the game-winner.

Stratford’s returning all-staters are Wes Flournoy and Adi Patel.

Last year, senior Gavin Aguirre came up big with two goals, the third goal coming from Jude Burgess, both seniors, as was keeper Griffin Moore.
