Henley leaves Memorial with some momentum
Russell Henley had only two rounds of The Memorial under par, but was steady and competitive en route to a tie for fifth.
His 1-under final round didn’t push him into contention, but a top-5 finish was a boost after some recent travails.
He opened with a bogey, and had another after consecutive birdies, all in the first six holes for an even front nine. Henley found a groove with three birdies in six holes and was in position to perhaps make a little move, but bogeyed the final two holes.
Thus, a subpar putting day, ranking 44th for the tournament but improving in shots gained, greens in regulation, and scrambling.
Henley, who took home $840,000, is off for this week’s RBC Canadian Open while preparing for the U.S. Open starting June 12.
