Russell Henley is in that mess.
The Stratford and Georgia grad turned in a pedestrian first round – he wasn’t alone – of the British Open with a 1 over 72 and is tied for 42nd with so many others.
Henley was even until hitting a bunker off the tee on No. 18, and muddling his way to a bogey on the 466-yard par-4 hole, the sixth-hardest of the day. He almost saved par, his 17-footer getting to within a half foot.
He had an odd No. 14, a par-4 456-yard role ranked third toughest for the day, on target for par only to settle for a bogey after being unable to convert an 11-footer.
Henley teed off Friday morning at 4:36 a.m. EST.
