Henley picks up a little ground
Russell Henley was pretty good in the middle, shooting 2 under, but bogeys to start and end the day left him at even after two rounds of the British Open.
Henley is among 17 players in a logjam tied for 34th, joining Daniel Berger, Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, and Shane Lowry, among others.
Henley tees off at 7:15 a.m. Saturday with Antoin Rozner
The cut line was 1 over, and Henley was safely inside it when he finished up among the earlier players.
On No. 1, he teed off into a native area, and promptly went to a semi rough. He almost saved par when his approach went fro 43 yards to 10 feet, but he was a foot off for a two-putt bogey.
On 18, well, the same thing happened, except he left his par try a half-foot from the hole.
Henley birdied No. 2, had a bogey on 6, birdied 7, and then added a pair of birdies on 12 and 13.
Henley came up with some nice saves, including a 38-yard approach to set up the birdie on the par 5, 532 –yard No. 12.
He is 118th in shots gained around the green and tied for 71st in shots gained putting, but is 13th in driving accuracy.
