Easts brings the bats and arms to win Coastal Plain All-Star game
Home runs from Kyle Edwards and Chase Waddell were more than enough to lift the East to a 6-0 win Monday night over the homestanding West in the Coastal Plain League All-Star game at Luther Williams Field.
A crowd of 1,719 filled half of Luther Williams for Macon’s first time as the all-star game host. But there was no home-field advantage for the Bacon representatives or their teammates.
Billy Ham struck out in his lone appearance, and Kai Decker (Houston County/Mercer) was the final pitcher of the night, giving up a run amid three strikeouts in the ninth.
The West would get out of mild jam after a sweet 7-6-5 out at third when Trenton Lyons tried to stretch a leadoff double.
An out later, Edwards drilled a first-pitch homer for the lead. Waddell followed a two-out single with a homer to right that was just fair and just over the fence in the fifth.
East pitchers racked up 14 strikeouts to eight for the West crew, and the East outhit the West 7-3.
The skills competition on Sunday might’ve been a little precursor to the East feeling at home at Luther Williams, since three of the four titles went to players from the East.
Greenville’s Quinn Holt was named the game’s top pitcher, after striking out the side in the sixth.
Waddell took home top hitter honors, courtesy of the two-run homer.
Macon visits Asheboro on Wednesdy and is back home Thursday against Tri-City.
