Madi Burch’s 3-hit game – including a homer - led Northside. Kadence Cooley threw a shortened no-hitter, and 7 Demon errors led to 7 unearned runs.

Henley set for BMW Championship

A year ago, Russell Henley entered the PGA Tour’s there playoff tournaments 13th and 14th in the two major rankings.
          His average finish was a tie for 19th.
          That set him up for a quality 2025 season, and he entered the playoffs in the top five in the FedExCup and Official World Golf Rankings.
          He’s still there as he joins 49 other players in the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs at the BMW Championship, coming off a solid weekend in Memphis.
          Henley’s lone bogey-free round at the FedEx St. Jude Championship was a timely one, the last one.
          Henley opened and closed the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis with 66s, good for a tie for 17th in the first FedEx Cup playoff tournament of the season.
          Up next is the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mill, Md., just northwest of Baltimore. Henley teed off just before lunch.
          In last year’s three playoff tournaments, Henley - in the middle of the pack on Thursday’s tee time at the BMW of 11:05 a.m. with Ben Griffin - finished tied for 30th, tied for 22nd, and tied for fourth, a combined 28 under par.
          Henley – who will cruise past the $10 million mark in earnings for the year, entering the weekend at $9.9 million – has some momentum.
          The Stratford grad is playing well, with four top-10 finishes in five events since missing the PGA Championship cut. He tied for 10th in the U.S. Open and the British Open, tied for fifth in the Memorial, and tied for second at the Travelers.
          The BMW Championship has been part of the PGA playoff format since 2007, when four tournaments made up the playoffs, six years before Henley turned pro.
          He has made every cut of the BMW in nine tries, and has shot under par six times, with a best of 9-under in 2023 when he finished tied for eighth at Olympia Fields Country Club’s North Course.
          This is only the second time Henley has played at Caves Valley. He shot a 3-under 285 and finished tied for 60th way back in the 2020-21 season, in late August of 2021.
          It’s now a 7,226-yard course that opened 34 years ago, and like many courses, has undergone recent upgrades and changes, mostly in 2023. During the 103-day renovation, 45,000 cubic feet of dirt were moved on the first hole alone.
          The course got a little longer while dropping par two strokes to 70. Jim Furyk shot a 59 in 2013, and Bryson DeChambeau carded a 60 in the second round of the BMW in 2021, before the work.
