Moving the GHSA state traditional wrestling meet away from the Macon Coliseum turned out to be a good thing for a school not far away.

Jones County had its best finish ever in the event, held this year at the new Clayton County Convocation Center.
The state’s high school wrestling community was not in Macon, for the first time in awhile, moved up I-75 because of a scheduling situation at the
Marriott City Center adjacent to the Macon Coliseum.
Jones County set a program record with its fourth-place finish in Class 4A, led by a state title at 165 from Arrie Martin, who beat Ethan Harrington of Cass 9-0 in the final. Martini finished second last year.
Dublin’s Domimarkeyo Walden took the Class A 285 championship again, going 4-0 with wins of 3-0, 15-5, 15-8, and then 6-2 in the championship against Jordan Handsom of ECI.
Teammate Quinton Lovett took second at 120, losing by fall to Noah Brown of Gordon Lee in 1:21.
Upson-Lee’s Cason Waddell took second in Class AAA at 144, up a spot from a year ago. He lost 23-7 to Jefferson’s Tanner Hunt in the final. Baldwin’s Toriano Gibson took second in 285, suffering a fall in 5:21 to Zane Taliaferro of Troup.

Jones County, Upson-Lee, West Laurens, and Dublin all had top-10 finishes in their respective classes. The Greyhounds led the area with five wrestlers in the top six, with four each from Upson-Lee and West Laurens.
Central Georgia was shut out on the girls side, with no champions or runners-up, a rarity. Sophie Brown of Houston County took third in 135 for the area’s top individual finish.
A change in websites has rendered detailed coverage of the past several years substantially more difficult, and thus not possible.
