Help wanted: Taylor County’s Byram hired by Charlton County
Taylor County has had three straight winning seasons, and Charlton County is hoping Brandon Bryam can do the same in Southeast Georgia.
The school, located about 35 miles from Jacksonville in Kingsland, hired Byram this week as its 17th head coach and third since 2019.
Byram took over the Vikings after service as quarterbacks coach at Cairo.
Bryam is a Crawford County grad and son of longtime Central Georgia coach Tony Byram.
Bryam went 22-21 in four seasons at Taylor County, which will resume looking for its first region title since 1998 with its 12th head coach.
He succeeded Mark Wilson, who went 38-30 in seven seasons and is now at Flint River Academy.
Charlton County lost head coach DeMario Jones in January to an assistant job at Camden County, after the Indians went 6-6 in 2025, with a first-round playoff win over Macon County, a region rival of Taylor County that made a coaching change this year.
Jones went 11-12 in two seasons at Charlton County after moving to Charlton from a high school in Tallahassee to succeed Russ Murray, ousted after going 22-31.
He succeeded legend Rich McWhorter, who went 288-79-2 in 29 seasons with 15 region and four state titles.
